Landfill History farmstead

The Chaffee facility site was a farmstead, prior to its use as a disposal area. It was converted to a landfill under the ownership and direction of Mr. Hugh Smith in 1958. Chaffee Landfill, Inc., Richard Penfold, President, acquired the 36-acre landfill and associated properties in October 1977. USA Waste, which later merged with Waste Management Inc., purchased all the properties held by C.I.D. Landfill, Inc. north and south of Hand Road in 1998
