Petroleum Impacted Soil

Gather generator knowledge regarding the product spill or release. For all material types, the generator must supply information on how the release occurred, an estimate on the quantity of product released, and approximate volume of impacted soil. Generator must indicate that the release was derived solely from a virgin product spill or release, that no other materials/products are known to exist in the waste stream. Generator may document this information directly on the profile, or in a signed letter accompanying the profile along with the analyses described below. The number of tests required will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Virgin Product

 

Diesel Fuel, Heating Oils, Kerosene, Hydraulic Oil:
GC/EC/PID for volatile organic (SW-846 method nos. 5030/8021), and modified paint filter test (SW-846 method 9095). Need statements from generator indicating that soil was impacted by virgin release of product only.

 

Gasoline:
GC/EC/PID for volatile organics (SW-846 method nos. 5030/8021), lead (SW-846 method 7000, direct aspiration or furnace AA), RCRA ignitability (SW-846 method 1010), and modified paint filter test (SW-846 method 9095). Need statements from generator indicating that soil was contaminated by virgin release of gasoline only.
Waste Oil or Fuels

 

Waste Oil:
Full TCLP volatiles, semivolatiles/PCBs, and metals, ignitability (SW-846, 1010) reactivity (SW-846, 9010 and 9030), and modified paint filter test (SW-846, 9095). TCLP pesticides and herbicides can be waived with generator statement that these materials were never used or stored in the area.

 

Unknown Release:
Full TCLP volatiles, semivolatiles/PCBs (including pesticides and herbicides), and metals, pH, ignitability (SW-846, 1010), and reactivity (SW-846, 9010 and 9030), modified paint filter test (SW-846, 9095).
