Policy and Procedures

Safety Rules, Regulatory Requirements and Restrictions:

  • PolicyLandfill Hours – 7:00 am – 4:00 pm – Monday thru Friday.
  • No trucks on site or waiting at the gate prior to 6:45 am. Town of Sardinia as well as DOT and DEC Landfill Operating Permit regulations require WM to strictly enforce this requirement.

  • Staging of trucks on Rt. 16 or any local roadway is prohibited.

  • Trucks are prohibited from using Chaffee/Curriers Road when traveling from Rt. 98. Chaffee/Curriers Road is not a truck route.

  • All loads must be tarped, secured and tied down prior to entry.

  • No untarping and turnbuckles removed prior to entering scales.

  • Landfill Operators and Scale house monitor CB channel 23. Please follow transmitted instructions at all times.

  • Untarp just prior to backing into active area – (No untarping in woods or at bottom of hill).

  • All drivers must abide by all posted signs.

  • Site speed limit is 10 mph.

  • Yield right of way to landfill vehicles and equipment.

  • Hard hats and reflective/high visibility vests are required to be worn while outside vehicle on working face of landfill.

  • Operators will instruct drivers to back in when lanes are clear.

  • Hard hats and reflective/high visibility vests are required to be worn while outside vehicle on working face of landfill. These items will be available for purchase at the scalehouse
  • No scavenging in landfill.

  • No one under age 16 permitted outside vehicles.

  • No smoking in landfill active truck area.

  • All debris must be removed from vehicles prior to leaving active area.

  • All vehicles entering landfill are subject to WM overweight policy.

  • All customers and transporters must comply with Working Face Policy and Procedures.
